Flower arranging has always been one of those “girl things” I just could not do.  Even when I bought pre selected bunches of flowers from the supermarket they immediately transformed into something horrible as soon as I plopped them in a vase.  Recently, given my new interest in the crafty and homey I decided to take another crack at flowers.  It all started with a dozen roses I got on super-clearance after Sweetest Day at Jewel.  I  now present my second effort made possible by a lovely bouquet I got at Trader Joes.

The first arrangement wasn’t a totally successful attempt, but I give myself  points for creativity.

The arrangement included one weirdly bent sunflower.  I couldn’t figure out what to do with it, so I cut it to the very top of the flower and put it in a vintage teacup.  The brown pebble type things in the cup are actually dried lentils.  I then added some green sprigs to the back of the arrangement.  It was cute, but due to lack of water it was dead in about two days.  Like I said, points for creativity.

The second arrangement actually turned out much better and was pretty much an afterthought.

After I got done using all the flowers in the bouquet I still had a lot of greenery left.  I arranged it in a champagne flute and this was the result.  This arrangement is, I’m happy to report, still alive a week later.

So, I’m learning…there are so many creative things you can do with flowers and, unlike a lot of home projects, if you don’t like the result you can always pull the flowers out of their container and try again.
